nice neighbors you have there Perkunas! (and sometimes I am glad my driveway is only 1 1/2 cars long).
I used to live on a street like that--back in Boise ...the whole county only had 3 plows, so yeah, city streets were low priority...the first place I lived there we never had a plow go down our road, the 2nd place I lived was on the street that idot was on, so they HAD to plow just to get the plows on the road!
so we missed yet another major storm.

Wow that is pretty awesome. A bobcat would definitely make clearing a driveway a lot easier to say the least! Very nice of them.
Welp I have started ordering the components for my PC. Got the graphics card, motherboard, and processor ordered. Will order the rest probably tomorrow.

good work!
....been doing the 'modifications' to my hubby's computer case...hope to get the last new holes drilled this weekend (new mobo--different spots for screws=more holes to drill), then my work is done on it--hubby has all the components, just needs to put them all in (though may need a new case fan---which can be purchased at a later date if need be).....so looks good for computer building in march!

We had a lot rain yesterday. Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine got all the snow, where it should be. This link is to American Chainsaw on National Geographic Channel and our little town's 20 minutes of fame.

There was a time when I could go the custom computers, built for what I wanted to do. Those days are gone, just "off the shelf" ones now. Most come good enough for most things. Can't complain too much about this $450 unit. Processor just 1.8m, not enough for GW2, but saves me spending the money on the game.

I'm still young and at the moment unmarried (will change in June) so I have funds to myself. Figured I should get one before I get married. Might not get one then! Must act now. I'm assuming that someday I will be back to getting the off the shelf variety. Which will be fine.
Well better rain than snow RR. Rain can be helpful. It can be harmful as well but snow, snow is just there to be a pain and look pretty.

have laptops that are off the shelf, our desk tops are home built (and only cost about $2k for each one---hubby's was first built in 2003--so only had to get some new components which we waited for a few months to have the funds for, mine was rebuilt after a huge crash about 2 years ago). With hubby being in IT it makes sense for him to build his own computers (helps him with the more techie stuff at work for example), and we never found an off the shelf we liked --either TOOOOOO BIG (no space here), doesnt do anything we need, has some os we hate, etc...so just easier to build what we want.
and we try to keep them until we can no longer fix them....(10 years is a very very good run on a computer!!, my japanese laptop is at 8 now, geesh time flies).
rr, glad you havent been washed away or buried under a ton of snow!!

If you have the ability to make your own you might as well. I don't but my co-workers do. Thus why I am doing the build your own route. They offered to help me. Had they not, never would have happened.

More of a software than hardware person here. Taught the youngest one all I knew and when he was going to computer school, the instructor was surprised at how much he already knew. He was more surprised to know he could make batch files in DOS. The son's ease of effort around computers got him a job in the Marines working on computer systems on their fighter jets and now doing a very similar job on railroad locomotives. Now we call him if and when we need hardware help.

yeah, its nice to have a computer geek in the family (I have a bunch...oldest bro has ph.d in physics with computers as his back up--there was no computer degree when he got his , now I even have a nephew with a doctorate in computers!! as well as hubby's computer background and being in the geek group in college) I even worked for a computer company back in the late '90's so I have been around computers for a long time without being the person who could fix them (though I did learn quite a lot--back in my day that computer compnay wanted me to learn C+ etc so they could hire me out!!).
Now I just feel a wee bit behind (though I really DONT like windows 7 vista and HATE windows 8 aka windows for phone/computer).

My brother is the computer geek in our family. He is a game designer out in Cali. If you have been around long enough Perkunas you might have seen him on here before, under the name DE. He doesn't play GW or GW2 much anymore, but then again neither do I lol But ya, he is the computer geek. He built his own computer last year which lead me to want to build mine.
I like Windows 7. Vista I hated and I don't even like the look of Windows 8. Windows 7 is what will be on the new computer.

yeah 7 it what we are going to have to put on the remodded one, and both of us are going to have to learn it then (hubby says his work is changing over to 7 as well, so might as well learn it now on his own before a bath of fire from work).
anyone else ready for spring?

I am beyond ready for Spring. I am a summer person. I would rather be too warm than chilled. Enjoyed working the pipeline in the heat, but the cold was too much. Had to wear too much to be able to work easily.

Definitely ready for spring. Supposed to be in the 50's next weekend. So hopefully that holds true...
Windows 7 and XP are by far my favorite. 7 grew on me as I used it. Only had to use Vista at work and hated it. Windows 8 just looks bad.

no 50's in our forecast (lucky to stay above freezing).
but am totally ready for spring.
Have started working on my big project--photos to computer--when I was in japan I took dozens of rolls of film (no digital camera back then that I would have taken with me --wouldnt want it to get taken). So I had an aps camera (2 actually, first one died on a 40 photo roll...only a few months before I was going home too). I had the photos, but would like to get them onto my computer, thus I need to get them onto a cd/dvd. I did actually start this project when I returned from japan, my last trip was done to cd (good thing it since it was 10 rolls of film!), and I have tried over the years to find a place that does aps film---walgreens did a few of mine, but the pics (on the cd) were all backwards and upside down! (still havent 'fixed' them all yet), had one online site that did them, but as well as being $$$ they also didnt do a very good job and took forever to return the film and disk. Found a new site last year, and have been planning to get more film over to them. So I decided to locate all the rolls, inventory (which I am still doing--heck, its been 8 years since I came back, all the castles are starting to look alike to me ) Now I am working on time lines, since sometimes I didnt take a whole roll of film...I find ends of trips on some rolls; other times I only took a few pics, so I have rolls that are the end of a trip, another local trip and another beginning of a trip at the end of the roll!
I should have kept better records of the rolls--but I did keep pretty good records of the trips...so I am collating them together (after finding all the pics and rolls of film). I find I have over 80 rolls of film to transfer (at $.50 per photo with either 25 or 40 pics to a roll....PLUS shipping and handling fees......) so yeah I am taking my time working on this project
Looking back I wish I had written the codes for the aps film on my trip logs (as well as getting a cd--which was not available in japan where I got the film developed at that time)....but when I am done I will have a really nice set of thousands of pics of japan (I should get a website and put them up-------nah, too much work! )

Still calling for upper 40's low 50's here next weekend. Thank goodness cause we are supposed to get some more snow Monday-Wednesday... So ready for spring.
Yikes, that sounds like quite a project cosy! Glad most of my photos are all digital and on a memory card. Makes it real easy to transfer over to my computer.

yeah, we had a lot of pics on memory cards that were transfered over, but not wanting my really nice expensive digi camera to disappear (or get broken), I used a cheaper camera (fit into my pocket too)...AND digital cameras werent as advanced back then either--no 1gig cards (I remember getting our first 256 meg...that was expensive too!), and my computers wouldnt have been able to upload those pics either....(and really didnt want to buy multiple memory cards !!! and have to mail them home).
so instead I am left with this daunting project...think I have figured out all the trips with their photos (will check my photo books this week to see if I missed anything else), and then ....start sending them off to be copied to cd/dvd.
gotta start on my taxes too...cant believe its march already and I have yet to go and get forms (no I will NOT do my taxes on the computer!!!! and I have no reason to pay someone to do simple addition and multiplication!).

Suppose to rain tonight. The melting snow is now turning my driveway into a mud hole. Need a couple loads of gravel, but at $200 a load, not going to happen right away.
Spent a couple of hours last night trying to get my comp to see the son's cell to download pics. Added drivers and updated phone only to turn the comp into a charger!! What a waste of time!!
